Game 34 Results: Steady as She Goes

Final Score: Thunder 103, Hawks 94

Record: 23-11

Stat Leaders

Points: Durant with 33, Crawford with 26

Rebounds: Westbrook, Ibaka with 10, Josh Smith with 9

Assists: Westbrook with 19, Johnson with 9

Is it just me, or did both teams kind of have a whole “where the New Year’s party at?” vibe throughout?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take it.  A win against a quality opponent is a win against a quality opponent.  The Thunder controlled most of the game, and for a change actually got off to a quick start, leading 33-24 after one quarter.  It’s also good to know that they can handle a better than average team without breaking too much of a sweat.

The night belonged to the duo of Durant and Westbrook.  In case you missed it, Westbrook notched his 3rd career triple double tonight, getting 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.  He was frequently able to set up Durant wherever he wanted the ball, and as a result Durant’s 33 came on an efficient 11-22 shooting night, which included 5-9 from 3-point range.  You can really get a sense these last few games when Westbrook thinks he has a matchup advantage against the other team.  The Hawks really didn’t have anyone who could stay in front of him, and Westbrook got back into that mode where he attacks and then has a spectacular nose for where the ball is going to go if he misses.  As a result, three of those boards were offensive rebounds.

At the end of the day, the Thunder took care of business in the 4th once again, limiting the Hawks to 15 points.  It looked like the life had been sucked out of them.  Stepping into Loud City and not wanting to compete at the end? That’s a pretty good home court position indeed.

Next game: at the Spurs tomorrow night at 8:30PM EST
