Jeff Green Likely to Become Restricted Free Agent

As reported by Mayberry and Rohde at The Oklahoman:

“There are a whole lot of reasons [the deal] couldn’t get done right now, but I’m not worried about it. I’m just thinking about this season and what I’ve got to do.” – Jeff Green, 10/28/10

This scenario will have interesting ramifications for both the team as well as Green, with the spectre of the Collective Bargaining Agreement on the horizon and thus far a low market being made for the 2006 draft class.

Green is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, which will pay him $4.5 million through 2011.  According to Hoopshype.com, his qualifying offer will be set at $5.9 million for the 2011-12 season.  This means that, if the qualifying offer is extended to Green, the Thunder will have the right of first refusal for any counter offer that Green might receive on the free agent market.
